Yonto Pro

Free costs nothing, always. It has the built-in demo library, one source of your own, the whole player with History and Continue Watching, and Yonto on TVs, phones and tablets.

Pro is US$14.95, one payment, not a subscription. It has everything in Free, as many sources as you like, and installing plugins, including ones you write yourself. One Pro licence works on up to 5 devices at a time, across every Yonto app.

Pro includes no content: Yonto provides none, and Pro is the price of the app.

In Settings, the Yonto Pro row says what this device has: “Free: one source” or “Unlimited sources and plugins”.

On Free, adding a second source of your own asks for Pro, whether you add it from Add source or from a repo: “Free has one source of your own. Get Pro to add as many as you like; the ones you have stay.”

Installing a plugin asks too: “Installing a plugin needs Pro. Plugins you already have keep working and updating.”

Get Pro in that dialog opens Settings, Yonto Pro.

Choose Get Pro on the pricing page. You can also start from the app:

  • On a phone, tablet or iPhone, go to Settings, Yonto Pro, and choose Get Pro. It opens the same page in your browser.
  • On a TV, Settings, Yonto Pro shows a QR code: “Scan to buy Pro on your phone. Your key comes by email.”

Paddle takes the payment. It sells Pro to you as the merchant of record and handles the sales tax, and we never see your card.

When the payment goes through, the page says your licence key is on its way to the address you paid with. It can take a minute, so check your spam folder if it has not arrived. The email is called “Your Yonto licence key”.

Keep that email. You need the key to add a device, and devices you have already activated keep working without it.

Either way works.

  • Open the link in the email on the device that has Yonto. Yonto opens, turns Pro on, and its Yonto Pro page says “Pro is on. Thanks for buying it.”
  • Or type the key. Go to Settings, Yonto Pro, enter it under Licence key, and choose Activate.

Opened on a computer, the email’s link shows a code to scan with your phone, and the key to type in instead. If the device already has Pro, opening the link leaves it as it is.

Once Pro is on, the page says “Pro is on for this device.”

A TV has no email and no easy keyboard, so you finish on your phone.

  1. On the TV, go to Settings, Yonto Pro, and choose Activate with your phone.
  2. The TV shows Activate Yonto Pro, an address (account.yonto.app/activate) and a code, with a QR code beside them.
  3. On your phone, scan the QR code, or go to the address and enter the code, then choose Continue.
  4. The page asks “Add a device to your Yonto licence?” and names the device that asked. Only continue if it is the TV in front of you.
  5. Enter your licence key and choose Add this device.
  6. The page says “The device is added”, and within a few seconds the TV says “Pro is on. Thanks for buying it.” It then goes back to Yonto Pro, which says “Pro is on for this device.”

A code lasts ten minutes, and the TV shows how long it has left. When it runs out, the TV replaces it with a new one, or shows a Get a new code button.

One licence is on up to 5 devices at a time, across every Yonto app: TVs, phones, tablets and iPhones together. Each device you activate takes one place. Activating again on a device that is already on the licence does not take another, and neither does reinstalling Yonto on the same device.

Each time a device is added, we email you “A device was added to your Yonto licence”. If that was not you, remove it.

When all 5 places are taken, activating says:

  • In the app: “That licence is on as many devices as it allows. Remove one on your account page, then try again.”
  • On the activate page, for a TV: “Your licence already has as many devices as it allows. Remove one from your account first.”

To free a place, sign in to your account and choose Remove next to the device, under Devices. The page asks once more whether to remove it: choose Remove again. The place is free at once, so you can activate the new device straight away. The removed device keeps Pro until it next checks in with the licence service (see Offline).

Your account is at account.yonto.app. There is no password. Enter the email you bought with and choose Email me a link. Open the link in the email and choose Continue to your account. The link works once, for 15 minutes.

The account page, Your licences, shows your licence, its devices (for example “Devices (2 of 5)”), and Lost your key? Issue a new one.

From the app, Settings, Yonto Pro, Your account opens it on a phone or tablet. On a TV with Pro, Your account says “Scan to manage your devices, or get a new key, on your phone.” over a QR code of that page.

We keep only a scrambled copy of your key, so we cannot send it again. Instead you get a new one:

  1. Sign in to your account, with a link to the email you bought with.
  2. Choose Lost your key? Issue a new one.
  3. The page shows Your new Yonto key, once. Copy it now: it is not shown again if you reload or leave the page. It also shows a QR code to scan with your phone or tablet, which turns Pro on there.

Your old key stops working. Reloading the page does not issue another key: it says Your Yonto key was already shown, with Issue another key in case you did not copy it.

A new key does not turn Pro off on any device, whichever key activated it. Under Devices on this licence the page says “A new key doesn’t sign anyone out. If you think someone else used your old key, remove the devices you don’t recognise.” Choose Remove next to any device you do not recognise, then Remove again on the page that asks. A removed device keeps Pro until it next checks in with the licence service (see Offline).

The proof we need is that you can open email at the address you bought with. If you no longer can, write to support@yonto.app.

Pro is checked on your device, so it keeps working with no internet.

Turning Pro on needs the internet. If Yonto cannot reach the licence service then, it says “Couldn’t reach Yonto’s licence service. Try again in a moment.”

About once a month, Yonto checks in with the licence service when it starts. A device that cannot reach the service keeps Pro. Only the service saying the licence was refunded or revoked, or that this device was removed, turns Pro off.

You can have a full refund within 7 days of buying, for any reason. Reply to Paddle’s receipt, or email support@yonto.app from the address you bought with. The refund policy has the details.

After a full refund, Pro turns off the next time Yonto checks in (see Offline), and Yonto goes back to Free:

  • One source of your own stays on. The rest stay saved but are turned off, and say “Off · needs Pro” in Settings, Sources.
  • Installing a plugin needs Pro again. Plugins you already installed keep working and updating.
  • Your History, settings and the demo library are untouched.

Activating with a refunded key says “That licence was refunded or revoked.”
