Master PIN
The Master PIN keeps Yonto closed to anyone who picks up the remote or the phone without knowing it. With a PIN set, Yonto opens on a lock screen, Yonto is locked, every time it starts. Enter the four digits and Yonto stays open until it is closed again.
The PIN locks the whole app, not one source or one title. It is kept on this device only: each TV, phone or tablet has its own, or none.
Set a PIN
Section titled “Set a PIN”- Go to Settings, then Master PIN, under Privacy & security. The row says Off while no PIN is set.
- Choose Set PIN.
- “Choose four digits”, then “Enter the same four digits again”.
If the two do not match, Yonto says “Those didn’t match — choose four digits again” and you start the new PIN over. Setting the PIN does not lock the app you are using; the lock starts the next time Yonto starts.
The Master PIN page then says “Set — Yonto asks for it every time it starts.”
Change the PIN
Section titled “Change the PIN”- Go to Settings, Master PIN, and choose Change PIN.
- “Enter your current PIN”.
- Choose the new four digits, then enter them again.
A wrong current PIN says “Wrong PIN”, and nothing changes.
Remove the PIN
Section titled “Remove the PIN”- Go to Settings, Master PIN, and choose Remove PIN.
- Yonto asks “Remove the master PIN?” and says “Enter it once more and anyone with this device can open Yonto.”
- Enter the current PIN.
The page then says “Not set — anyone with this device can open Yonto.”
On the lock screen
Section titled “On the lock screen”The lock screen says “Enter your PIN”. A wrong PIN says “Wrong PIN”, and you can try again.
Five wrong PINs in a row make Yonto wait: it says “Too many tries. Try again in 0:30” and takes no digits until the time is up. Each wrong PIN after that doubles the wait, up to an hour, and restarting Yonto doesn’t end it. Wrong PINs in Settings, and wrong unlock codes, count too.
If you forget the PIN
Section titled “If you forget the PIN”On the lock screen, choose Forgot PIN?.
With Yonto Pro on the device, Yonto asks “Forgot your PIN?” and says where to find this device’s unlock code:
- On another phone or a computer, sign in to your account.
- Under Devices, choose Show unlock code next to this device. The code changes every 30 seconds.
- Enter the code on the lock screen. A wrong one says “That code didn’t work”.
- Yonto says “Choose a new PIN”: choose four digits, then enter them again.
Yonto opens with the new PIN, and your sources, History and settings are all kept. Each code works once, and a code from the last 30 seconds still works, so a clock a little off is fine. Press Back on a TV, or choose Back on a phone, to go back to entering the PIN.
Without Pro on the device, Yonto says “This device has no unlock code, so the only way back in is clearing Yonto’s data.” Clearing Yonto’s data starts it over without a PIN. On Android, open the system’s settings, find Yonto (Yonto TV on a TV) under the apps, and choose Clear data, which a phone keeps under Storage. On an iPhone, delete Yonto and install it again. It removes everything Yonto keeps on that device: your sources, logins, History and settings. If the device had Pro, turn it on again with your key; it is the same device, so it does not take another place.
