FAQ
Does Yonto provide any content?
Section titled “Does Yonto provide any content?”No. Yonto is a player: apart from the demo library of openly licensed Blender films (credits), everything you watch comes from a source you add. It ships with no catalogs, and what you add is your responsibility, so only use sources you are entitled to watch. Pro includes no content either.
Why is only one source free?
Section titled “Why is only one source free?”Free is the whole app, with the demo library and one source of your own, so you can use Yonto with your own server for as long as you like. Pro, one payment of US$14.95, is how Yonto is paid for, and it adds as many sources as you like and installing plugins. The sources you already have stay when you reach the limit. See Yonto Pro.
What is a format reader?
Section titled “What is a format reader?”Many sites serve their catalog in a format other sites share, such as MacCMS or XPTV. A format reader is a plugin that reads one of those formats, and Yonto has one built in for each. A reader holds no catalog: each source you add, by hand or from a repo, gives it the one catalog address it reads.
A plugin can also read a format in place of the built-in reader. Yonto says so before it does, with a line such as “Reads MacCMS format (JSON) sources instead of the built-in reader”, and the plugin’s page offers Use the built-in reader to go back. See Plugins and repos.
How do I clear the cache?
Section titled “How do I clear the cache?”Go to Settings, Cache, and choose Clear cache. Yonto keeps what each source last answered, and shows it when the source is slow or down. Clearing it makes Yonto ask every source again; it says “Cleared, Home is reloading”. Your sources, History and settings stay.
How does the PIN work, and what if I forget it?
Section titled “How does the PIN work, and what if I forget it?”A Master PIN makes Yonto ask for four digits every time it starts. Set, change or remove it under Settings, Master PIN. If you forget it, choose Forgot PIN? on the lock screen. With Pro on the device, the unlock code on your account gets you back in with everything kept; without it, clearing Yonto’s data is the only way back. Master PIN has the details.
How do I update Yonto?
Section titled “How do I update Yonto?”- On Android TV, a phone or a tablet, go to Settings, About, and choose Check for updates. If there is a new version, choose Update to it, then Install it once it has downloaded. Installing replaces this version; your sources and history are kept.
- On an iPhone, iOS doesn’t let an app install its own updates. Settings, About shows your version and See new versions, which opens the release page.
The first time, Android may ask you to let Yonto install updates: choose Open permission settings, allow it, then press Back.
How do I move to a new TV?
Section titled “How do I move to a new TV?”Yonto has no account for your library: your sources, History and settings stay on the device they were made on, and nothing copies them across.
- Install Yonto on the new TV from the download page.
- Add your sources again. If they came from a repo, adding the repo brings them back in one go.
- If you have Pro, turn it on with Settings, Yonto Pro, Activate with your phone.
If your licence is already on 5 devices, remove the old TV on your account page first. See Devices.
Does Pro work offline?
Section titled “Does Pro work offline?”Yes. Pro is checked on the device, and a device that cannot reach the licence service keeps it. Only turning Pro on needs the internet.
Something else is wrong
Section titled “Something else is wrong”See Troubleshooting, which goes through every message Yonto shows, or write to support@yonto.app with the app version from Settings, About, the type of source and what the screen said.
